About this product
The Shelly BLU Gateway is a small USB-A dongle whose only job is translation: it listens for Shelly BLU (Bluetooth-only) devices, buttons, door sensors, TRVs, humidity sensors, and forwards what they report onto your Wi-Fi network and, if you want it, the Shelly cloud. Plug it into any USB power source and it does the rest; there's no app to switch, no relay to wire.
This matters because BLU devices are Bluetooth-only by design: cheaper, longer battery life, but short range and no native Wi-Fi. Without a gateway, they're only reachable from whatever's in Bluetooth range. You don't strictly need this dongle if you already have a Gen2 or newer Shelly relay/plug running as the bridge, but if you don't, or you want a dedicated always-on bridge instead of borrowing a relay's radio, this is the purpose-built option.
Keep expectations realistic: Bluetooth range is Bluetooth range: roughly 20 to 30 m depending on walls and interference. The gateway doesn't extend the BLU device's radio, it just gets the signal onto Wi-Fi once it arrives.
